Logo for Parramatta Mission

The Community Visitors Scheme ("CVS") is a national program that is funded by the Australian Government. It aims to enrich the quality of life for people who may be experiencing social isolation or loneliness.

Our social support (or CVS) volunteer has an essential role under the CVS scheme - to visit residents living in an aged care home to support them through loneliness and isolation on a regular, one-on-one basis.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Ideally we are looking for someone who has:

  • A commitment to building and sustaining a friendship with an older isolated person over an extended period of time.
  • A demonstrated genuine empathy, understanding and enjoyment of older people.
  • Demonstrated reliability and flexibility.
  • Effective communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Willing to seek advice, as appropriate.
  • Preparedness to comply with health and safety protocols/procedures of specific aged care home.

The role requires an on-going commitment of at least 12 months, with visits at least once a fortnight.

Please note: It is an requirement of the CVS program that all social support volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (three shots). Further, it is generally highly recommended by aged care homes that all social support volunteers have up-to-date flu vaccinations prior to any in-person visits.
