The Conservation Treasurer

Avon Valley Environmental Society (AVES) is a voice for the environment. Our vision is to progress the cultural, economic and social development of the Avon Valley in an environmentally sustainable manner. We understand many people want to help the environment, but not everyone is in a position to be hands on. You can help behind the scenes by assisting to prepare the monthly finance report, occasionally acquit grants and help prepare quarterly GST return.

This is a great opportunity to become part of a successful community group who help improve the environment and meet like minded people.

You will need a knowledge of Bookkeeping, Excel and GST for this role together with your own computer. The current Treasurer is very kindly offering to help the successful applicant smoothly transition into this role so you can rest assured you will be well supported.

This position would be well suited to someone who is keen to work flexible hours (2-3hrs p/m) from home. You MUST attend our monthly meeting in person which take place on the 3rd Friday of each month at midday in NORTHAM.

What we do: REVEGETATION – an ongoing annual program WALKING TRACKS – we both construct and maintain many kilometres of tracks CITIZEN SCIENCE – in collaboration with the Shire of Northam and the Dept of Water we continuously monitor the state of the Avon River in Northam RECYCLING – we actively encourage recycling in the Valley ADVOCACY – over the years we have advocated on matters of roads, river conservation, waste disposal, conservation plans, mining, and construction of an Environmental Centre, signage, parks, flora and fauna LIAISON – is constant with Shires, Government Departments, members of Parliament, media, Aboriginal groups, other not for profit organisations, private enterprise MEMBERSHIP – we are active members of CARE (Conservation of the Avon River Environment), Wheatbelt Natural Resources Management, Environmental Defenders Office, Conservation Council of WA FINANCE – over the years we have received many thousands of dollars to spend on the environment and are constantly seeking, usually successfully, further funding from a variety of sources. The organisation is in a sound financial position, is well managed and is effectively governed COMMUNITY – we are a well-established community organisation. We obtain assistance from school students, volunteers from the immigrant detention centre and from Wooroloo Prison Farm, private enterprise, Green Corps, Work for the Dole etc in order to further the interests of the environment.
