Would you like to be a friend for an older person? Can you spare an hour a fortnight (or more) to brighten someone’s day with a regular weekly or fortnightly visit?

Did you know that some people in an aged care homes live in social isolation and have no or very few visitors?

The Community Visitors Scheme provides friendship and companionship through volunteer visits to socially isolated people living in residential aged care. As a Community Visitor Volunteer you will be matched with an elderly person living in residential aged care and embark on a rewarding journey of connection and friendship through offering companionship, chatting or sharing a common interest.

A typical visit may include playing games, reading books/newspapers, sharing stories, or working on a special project together such as a photo album or recording some of the residents lived history.

No special skills or talent is required, just a willingness to learn about the issues around aging and an ability to be a listening and understanding friend.

A regular and ongoing commitment is required.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
