Our workshops aim to improve young people's literacy and help them find their voice.
Our expert storytelling team lead our workshops, which are designed to build literacy, confidence, and creativity: essential skills young people need to shape their future. We establish a space where young people feel safe and supported, where they have permission to be creative, and where they are excited to write.
Volunteer Role - Volunteers work with students in small groups to support them write all kinds of stories, from narrative fiction, poetry, performance script, a radio podcast, short film, memoir, letters, comic strips, etc., which we then publish.
Skills - We do NOT require you to have teaching or writing experience (although that's great if you do). We’re looking for volunteers who are patient, kind, have a sense of humour and imagination, and proficiency with the English language, and are able to create a safe space for our students to be creative.
Timing - We are looking for volunteers who are available for 2 - 4 hours each week between 8:30am- 3:30pm for 7 -9 weeks during the school term.
Next Steps: Volunteers are required to:
- Attend an in-person or online information session (1 hour)*
- Complete an application form and relevant paperwork including a Working with Children’s check and police check
- Participate in a Training session (2 hours)
