Several of our branches require a Chairperson.

The Chair is accountable to the Meals on Wheels SA Board through the CEO and presides at all branch meetings, including the branch annual general meeting. Knowledge of the Constitution, Rules Governing Branch Committees, MoWSA Policies and Procedures and the ability to implement the provisions are important requirements of this position. All branch office bearers must consult with the Chair in carrying out their duties, the Chair will seek such consultation.

The Chair is responsible for the smooth running of the branch and for: • Ensuring that MoWSA’s policies and procedures are understood and complied with • Ensuring that branch responsibilities are shared appropriately • Ensuring that all branch volunteers are kept up to date with information • Ensuring that the rules and procedures set out in the Policies and Procedures Manual are observed at all branch and committee meetings • Conducting all meetings to encourage effective decision making • Consulting with branch office bearers on a regular basis • Supporting and encouraging branch volunteers • Assisting to promote MoWSA services in the community (where possible) • Ensuring that any new directives by the Board and Central Office are carried out throughout the branch • Dealing with any escalated conflicts at branch level that the Volunteer Coordinator has been unable to resolve, and if necessary conferring with Central Office

Skills Required: • Ability to chair meetings • Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to listen • Ability to relate to a large cross-section of volunteers • Ability to support and lead change • Confidence in dealing with issues with a high degree of confidentiality.

Time commitment • Preparation for and attendance at branch meetings including the annual general meeting • Regular visits to the branch during preparation and delivery of meals • Attendance at conferences, workshops and training as arranged by Central Office

Training provided, and support is given from the Branch Support Officer at Central Office. If you have administration experience, or are willing to learn, and looking at volunteering as an on-going activity (minimum 12 months) we would love to hear from you. We require a 12 month minimum commitment, so please only apply if available longer term.

Meals on Wheels is a not-for-profit, community-based volunteer organisation working throughout South Australia. Since 1954, we have assisted many people in the community to live independently in their own homes by providing meals for up to 7 days. Delivering hot, delicious, nutritious 3 course meals on week-days and frozen meals for weekends, public holiday and other times when clients may need to be away from home. Our clients include those who cannot cook or shop for themselves with ease, such as older people, people with a disability, carers or those recovering from an illness or injury.
