Sydney Heritage Fleet

Logo for Sydney Heritage Fleet

KANANGRA is a 106-year-old 360-tonne inner-harbour ferry being restored by Sydney Heritage Fleet at our Rozelle shipyard. She was present at the closing up of the Harbour Bridge, the Midget Submarine attack in WWII and the opening of the Opera House. She has seen it all. We have four teams working on the project at the moment; one on Tuesday, one on Thursday, an engineering team, and a fundraising and marketing group. We have been successful in obtaining some grant funding and would like to expand the project by re-establishing our Saturday Team. We are now looking for: 3-6 people to make up this pivotal Saturday team. That will be 2 to 5 team members PLUS A team member who will need some co-ordination and work planning capabilities.

Your tasks will include refitting windows, restoring the banisters, railings, stairs, deck furniture, painting & varnishing – all to the high standards of our Museum's Standards & Specifications Committee. You may have experience as a handy person, you may be a tradesperson, or you may just like to get started on something to tell your children and grandchildren you did. Part of our purpose and reputation as a museum is for keeping traditional skills alive so we can certainly train you.

SHF has been in the ship restoration field for 53 years with a world-recognised reputation for authenticity in restoring museum ships – and then operating them. Be part of this extraordinary group of people from all backgrounds who won't take no for an answer!
