The Australian Air League’s Gold Coast Squadron is seeking interest from male and female adult volunteers to assist with the supervision and development of their youth membership.

The Air League is a not-for-profit volunteer run uniformed youth aviation focused group for youth aged 8 to 17 years old and has been operating in Australia since 1934.The Gold Coast squadron which has been operating since 2010 encourages good community citizenship, aviation knowledge, discipline and great fun amongst its cadet and officer members.

The Squadron parade nights are held once a week, where a variety of activities are undertaken. Activities include ceremonial drill, team building, physical training, model aircraft, First Aid, flight simulator, and aviation theory. Throughout the year squadron members can undertake extra activities which can include aircraft inspections, camping, ANZAC Day ceremonies, flying and gliding, museums and teach life skills and all with an aviation focus.

Adult volunteer officers are uniformed members of the squadron whose role is to supervise the cadets and assist to coordinate the squadron’s activities. No previous aviation experience is necessary as training is provided by the Air League. All that is required is enthusiasm, commitment and youth development and ideally interest in aviation.

The ability to communicate effectively with youth groups, work well with others and a willingness to model high standards of behaviour by example to cadets – are essential.

The Gold Coast Squadron, which operates out of premises at Pacific Pines currently has many cadet members. The squadron is financially sound and well-resourced and enjoys strong relationships with local elected representatives, aviation community partners and the local RSL sub branch – but it now seeks additional adult officers to assist in supporting the many pathways and opportunities available to Air League cadets.
