The West Gidgegannup Volunteer Bushfire Brigade has been in operation in one form or another since the early 60s. West Gidgegannup Brigade is registered with the City of Swan. It operates under the authority of the City's Chief Bush Fire Control Officer in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Swan and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES). The brigades work in tandem for all fires in the Gidge area. In total, we have 100 active fire fighters, utilising 8 fire appliances. However, our area of responsibility includes approximately 250 square kilometres of area. We also respond either singly or together to many fires outside the Gidge area.
