TuneFM is the University of New England’s very own student-powered radio station, broadcasting from our Armidale campus. As Australia’s oldest university broadcaster, TuneFM has been shaping future media professionals for over 50 years. Managed by UNE Life, in collaboration with a passionate team of UNE students, TuneFM offers hands-on experience that equips students with transferable skills in communication, project management, and media production. Our high-power, open narrowcasting service reaches the global UNE student community, staff, and the greater Armidale region. From its radical beginnings in 1970, born out of a desire for change in the political climate of the time, TuneFM has always been a hub for music, politics, and activism. With the backing of Professor Neville Fletcher and then-Vice-Chancellor Sir Zelman Cowan, TuneFM began broadcasting on April 27, 1970, becoming an essential voice for students. Today, TuneFM is not just a radio station—it’s a launchpad for future careers in media. Our volunteers graduate with a UNE degree and an impressive portfolio of real-world experience, setting them apart in the competitive job market.
