Mentoring a young person is a truly rewarding experience. Leading Youth Forward is a Perth based charity offering mentorships for at-risk teenagers in Years 7 – 10. The majority of teenagers are referred to us via our sister charity, Uni Camp For Kids, on the basis of social, emotional and financial disadvantage. We are proud to offer volunteering opportunities for young adults across Perth aged 22-39, interested in working with teens and their families. Through our program, teens are carefully matched with a mentor who provides one-on-one support and encouragement to build confidence, nurture personal growth and positively influence their teen at a critical stage in their life. Over the course of the year, our mentor and teens together attend a weekend camp and four Big Day Out events hosted by LYF. Through such events, teens and their mentor partake in a diverse range of fun and challenging activities that help build the relationships as well as provide exciting opportunities that they otherwise may not have had. Volunteers can expect to join their teen in tackling a range of new and exciting challenges. Examples of activities include trampolining, surfing, wheel chair basketball, painting, photography, rock climbing, cooking, problem solving, goal setting, interview skills and many more. LYF is distinguished from many other charities in being entirely run and staffed by volunteers, so every dollar raised goes directly to where it can make a difference.
